About Lauren

Lauren Barkman is a 23 year old actor, singer, dancer, and creative. She is a Boston Conservatory Alum who received her BFA in Musical Theatre in May 2023. During her time at the Conservatory, Lauren has been part of many spectacular productions. Recently, she acted as Dance Captain in a MainStage production of Candide (Dance and Vocal Ensemble). Her favorite, most challenging role was playing Marie Antionette in The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson. Lauren has had the opportunity to participate in student work and originate new roles. She has been a part of the Boston Conservatory MainStage  world premiere of Blue Neighborhood (Niamh) by Connor Wentworth. Additionally, she had the opportunity to act in New Ground Theatre Company’s production of Here or There (Lily) by Maddi LeBlanc.

 

During Lauren’s last year at The Boston Conservatory, she has chosen to specialize in Dance under the direction of Michelle Chasse. This past year, she has acted as Assistant Director on the Conservatory’s production of Swing! The Musical which premiered at the Calderwood Pavilion.

Lauren has received dance training by world renowned coaches and teachers such as Michelle Chasse, Aaron Tolson, Derick Grant, and Larry Sousa. She received private voice lessons from Dr. Marilyn Bulli and has studied acting under the guidance of Doug Lockwood, Paul Daigneault, Marcus Giamatti, Joy Arcolano, and Lee Nishri-Howitt. Lauren has worked closely with teachers like Anne L. Nathan, Joe Tapper, and Natalie Malotke. She has also attended intensives such as The Verdon Fosse Legacy Professional Training Program.

HOW SHE GOT STARTED

Originally from Bucks County, PA, Lauren began her career in performing as a member of her local theatre — Golden Wings Theatre Company. She performed leading roles in Beauty and The Beast (Belle), The Miracle Worker (Helen Keller), Legally Blonde (Vivian and Brooke), and Sweet Charity (Nikki). Lauren then went on to perform in Pinnworth Productions’ staging of Newsies where she was cast in the Ensemble and served as Dance Captain. She has also performed in productions with Downtown Performing Arts Center.

Over the years, she has participated in numerous concerts and galas such as “The Fund for College Auditions: Broadway for a Day” Concert, “The New York Pops Gala”, and “The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Fundraiser Gala”.
